DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte -- Hundreds of runners are expected to answer the starting gun when the 5K Open Fun Run kicks off at the Dapitan City Hall to Rizal Shrine here Thursday.
Dapitan City Tourism Council president Carlos Vargas said the 5K open fun run will usher the four-day charter anniversary celebration of this historic city.
"Aside from the open event, we will also hold a 3K fun run for 12 years old and below," Vargas said.
He said they marked the opening today, which is the birthday of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal who was exiled to this city for four years from 1892 to 1896.
Yvet Tormon, chief-of-staff of Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Eric Loretizo, said there will be a ceremony to spearheaded by the City Government of Dapitan in coordination with the National Historic Institute and PSC, at the Rizal Shrine Thursday.
She said the 1st Dapitan City Women's Beach Volleyball Championships will culminate the charter celebration. (MLSA)
