Tuesday, June 24, 2008 Fisheries production up in S. Mindanao
THE regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported that fisheries production in the region during the first quarter of 2008 was up by 17.74 percent.
In a report furnished by the bureau to Sun.Star Davao Monday, it said that fisheries output increased by 3,236 metric tons, higher by 17.74 percent than the same quarter in 2007.
Of the total production, roughly 22.78 percent was the percentage share of commercial fisheries, while 49.01 percent was for the municipal sub-sector.
The aquaculture sub-sector, on the other hand, contributed 28.21 percent of the total production output.
BFAR added that the commercial fishing posted an increase of 13.37 percent during the first quarter of 2008. Significant increases were observed in Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
Meanwhile, a gain of.30 percent was observed in the municipal fisheries sub-sector. Increases in output were noted in all provinces except in Davao City and in Davao Oriental. (JGRS)
