Thursday, June 26, 2008 Rebels, Army clash in Talaingod
PHILIPPINE Army soldiers clashed with the New People's Army (NPA) in the hinterland town of Talaingod, Davao del Norte, Tuesday afternoon.
Military reports showed that a platoon from the Army's 60th Infantry Battalion was conducting an operation in an abandoned militia patrol base in sitio Daligdigon, Barangay Dagohoy when they encountered undetermined number of rebels.
The firefight started around 4:30 p.m. and raged on for more than an hour.
One M16 rifle was recovered by the government troops in the clash site after the rebels withdrew towards different directions.
The Talaingod encounter is just one of the series of armed encounters between the Army and the NPA this year. Firefights also happened in Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao City and Davao del Sur. (BOT)
