SOME 50 slots are still available for the 2008 Primovit and Gaisano South Citimall Rapid Age-Group Chess Championships gets underway on Friday and Saturday at the GS Citimall.

Tournament director Ronnie Tabudlong said they are only limiting entries to 100 in the first-come, first-served registration.

As of Wednesday, around 50 woodpushers from all over the region have signed up in the Swiss System format chessfest sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

"We will still accept walk-in registrants on Friday before the opening rites. But we encourage players to sign up earlier than Friday so we can already do the pairings," said Tabudlong, who is director of the Blue Knight Chess Club.

Tabudlong said players would just have to present a P170 worth of Primovit vitamins to be able register. Inquiries may be coursed through Tabudlong at (082) 300-4260 or mobile number (0929) 240-7371.

The two-day meet will showcase players in the open under-12, open under-14, open under-16 and open under-18. The first four rounds will be played on Friday while the remaining rounds and awarding of prizes are set on Saturday.

The champions in every category will win P3,500 each, while the runners-up will go home with P2,000.

The annual event, which was launched last year, is part of Primovit's Tall and Smart Campaign for the wholistic development of children.

Primovit will also hold a 3-on-3 basketball on Saturday and Sunday at the GS SkyGym. (MLSA)
