MILKFISH production in Davao Region increased during the first quarter of 2008 amid unfavorable weather conditions.
In a data furnished by the regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), it said that the region's milkfish production output reached to 4,741.9 metric tons, higher by 99.41 percent as compared to the same period last year, with 2,378 metric tons.
Significant increases were recorded in the provinces of Davao del Sur with 128.91 percent and in Davao Oriental with 80.11 percent. Davao del Norte also posted an increase with 3.68 percent.
Compostela Valley and Davao City posted decreases in production output by 1.24 percent and 18.01 percent, respectively.
Among the five provinces, Davao del Sur was noted to have the biggest volume of production with 4,010.1 metric tons, compared to 1,751.9 metric tons produced during the same period in 2007.
The least produced milkfish, on the other hand, was noted in Davao City with only 66.1 metric tons.
