AT LEAST six youngsters from Davao City are eyeing blackbelts in a Dan promotional exam on July 6 at the Matina Town Square.
Sheldon Wong, president of the Ateneo de Davao Aikido Club, said the exams will be the highlight of the Aikido Seminar to be conducted by 7th Dan Blackbelt Jun Nomoto Sensei. The seminar will start on July 4.
"We are positive to earn a blackbelt. We've been preparing hard for the exams and we are very excited," Wong said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.
Joshua and Jacob Abella, who are also noted swimmers, will join the promotional exam along with fellow club members Lorenzo Sato, Meg Castrillo, and Carmela Arcena.
The six youngsters also held a demonstration during the weekly sports forum co-sponsored by Tower Inn and Genesis 88.
"Aikido is a unique martial art. It has no kicks and no punches. It is a way of life. We may not be playing aikido 24 hours a day but we adopt its policies. We also enjoy it a lot," Wong said. (MLSA)
