Friday, June 27, 2008 Fabriga, Banayag top SKC awardees
SOUTHEAST Asian (SEA) Games diving gold medalist and first-time Olympian Rexel Ryan Fabriga and SEA Games athletics bronze medalist Jho-an Banayag will be awarded the highest honors during 14th So Kim Cheng Sports Foundation Awards Night on July 22 at the Grand Regal Hotel.
Davao City Councilor and Davao City Sports Council, Inc. president Peter Laviña told Sun.Star Davao on Wednesday that Fabriga and Banayag will be the recipients of the Athlete of the Year for male and female categories.
"There were three nominees for the athlete of the year award. One for the female category and two for the male. I'm informed by our secretary Belen Taala that the top honorees will be Fabriga and Banayag," Laviña said.
Both athletes gave honor to the country by pocketing medals in the 24th SEA Games held in Thailand last year.
Another diving gold medalist, Sheila Mae Perez, is no longer eligible for the award having been elevated to the Hall of Fame couple of years ago. (MLSA)
