Ateneo kids Europe-bound

TWELVE young soccer players from the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) are leaving on July 3 to play a series of tournaments in Europe, including in the prestigious Gothia Cup.

The Ateneo kids will form part of the Makati Football Club that will represent the Philippines in the tournaments set in Sweden, Spain and Denmark.

Of the 12, four are girls. They are Alyssa Marie Ang, Erika Lorraine Turtur, Noreen Kim Maligad, and Kyhren Angela Dimaandal.

Ang, Turtur, Maligad and Dimaandal are members of the Ateneo soccer teams that bagged the 12-under crown and placed second in the 14-under categories of the Alaska Cup last year in Alabang.

Turtur was named Most Valuable player (MVP) in that event.

Also seeing action in Europe are Romeo Raphael Du, Emmanuel Josue M. Brisson, and Amiel Jan C. Paclibar in the Boy's 16; Derrico Diamante and Charlston Franklin Uy in the Boy's 14; and Jonathan Ryan Lim, Zandro Yvann Cabo, and Joshua James Valdez in the Boy's 11.

The touring Davao booters will play in the Costa Blanca Cup scheduled in Benidorm, Spain from July 6-12. They will then play in the Gothia Cup, considered the biggest youth football tournament in the world set in Goteborg, Sweden, from July 13-20.

Last stop will be the Denmark Football Festival scheduled in Aarhus, Denmark from July 21 to 27.

The Ateneo players trained with the rest of the MFC teams in Alabang from May 12 to June 6 and are raring to bring their skills against the world's best youth booters. (CRAM)
