Wednesday, July 02, 2008 Agri department vows access to rural loan By Joy Romares-Sevilla
TO ENSURE access to rural credit, the regional director of the Department of Agriculture (DA) said its office is working closely with the Agricultural Credit and Policy Council (ACPC) in order to extend loans to farmers.
In his speech, DA Regional Executive Director Roger Chio said: "Access to rural credit is one of the five pillars of the Department of Agriculture."
He added that agriculture is capital intensive economic activity and it is just proper that farmers will be given access to rural credit.
Chio also noted that credit accessibility translates into productive activities that can aid farmers and their household in alleviating poverty.
He said the creation of agri-credit desk officers in the regional and provincial levels by ACPC will bridge the information gap on agri-credit financing existing between farmers and fisherfolks.
ACPC was created in 1996 by virtue of Executive Order 113 to synchronize all credit policies and programs in support of the priority programs of the DA.
Chio was invited in last week's conduction of the "Ugnayang Agri-Kredit sa Probinsya" in Tagum City. His speech was delivered by Amad head Mirope Lamsem.
