DTI backs chamber's bid on Davao River

AS THE secretariat of the Davao chamber's SME Development (Smed) Council, which proposes Davao River to be transformed into river highways, the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) expresses support to the proposal.

Teolulo Pasawa, DTI-Davao director, said the Smed Council is conducting an ongoing discussion with the possibility of transforming Davao River into river highways.

"Davao River was proposed to have waterways and floating restaurants, it is a proposal which could be of great help to the community," Pasawa said.

He added that he still has no idea as to how much will be needed for the completion of the project.

"As of now, there's still no amount involved, on going pa kasi ang study," he said.

Earlier, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. president Simeon Marfori said the proposal will not only boost economy of the city, but also can raise awareness among the people who live near the river.

He said people can realize the worth of the river as a means of transportation and livelihood other than utilize it as a dumping site of wastes. (JGRS)
