Nerbac's practices to be replicated in other Asian countries

THE provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), who also chairs the DTI-National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (DTI-Nerbac), said the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is documenting Nerbac's procedure and practices to be replicated in other East Asian countries.

"The documentation is an Asean initiative under the funding of Australian Aid. Our procedure in the Single Window for Investment Facilitation and Trade (Swift) is being studied to be replicated in other East Asian nations," Teolulo Pasawa, DTI-Davao director and Nerbac chair, said in Tuesday's interview.

Pasawa said the process started last year when Australian Aid invited DTI-Southern Mindanao to submit a concept paper regarding its practices in the Nerbac for assessment and evaluation.

"This undertaking can establish goodwill on our expertise to implement innovative projects, stakeholders too will be assured that with DTI working in a particular project, it will be worthwhile, our competency will be displayed here," Pasawa said.

Though the concept paper was submitted last year, Pasawa said the documentation just started May this year. He said representatives of the Australian Aid have already visited DTI-Southern Mindanao twice.

"They visited twice. First, they stayed for a week, and the second visit lasted for three weeks," Pasawa said.

The Australian Aid, he said, is now working on a feasibility of replicating Nerbac's procedure and practices for application on a project with North Sulawesi in Indonesia.

"As of now, Australian Aid is investigating our one-stop-shop business registration process. They are also making reports to identify areas where we can further improve our procedures," Pasawa said. (JGRS)
