Arroyo welcomed in Davao del Sur

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was here Tuesday to attend the 41st Founding Anniversary of the province of Davao del Sur, upon the request of her ally, Governor Douglas Ra. Cagas.

Children lined up the streets waving colored-paper flags, while government employees were in full attendance at the Digos City Gymnasium, where Arroyo was scheduled to deliver a speech.

Streamers and billboards welcoming the President were also strategically positioned throughout the route of Arroyo's motorcade.

The President was accompanied by her allies in the province headed by Governor Cagas, 1st District Congressman Marc Douglas C. Cagas, and 2nd District Congressman Franklin Bautista.

She was also accompanied by two of her cabinet secretaries, Press Secretary Jesus Dureza and Presidential Management Staff chief Cerge Remonde.

During her speech, the President was applauded numerous times as she spoke in a mixture of Tagalog, Bisaya, and English.

According to the locals in the area, who waited patiently at the Digos City Gymnasium, it was Arroyo's first time to visit their province during her six-year stint as President of the country.

Apart from gracing the 41st Founding Anniversary of Davao del Sur, Arroyo also inaugurated the out-patient department and 50-bed capacity wing of the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

She reportedly flew to Iloilo City from Davao del Sur shortly before noon Tuesday. (CPM)
