Saturday, July 05, 2008 NPA attacks big blow to businesses By Carlo P. Mallo
BUSINESSMEN in Davao City have raised alarm over the numerous attacks perpetrated by the rebel group on private firms and infrastructure in the province in recent weeks.
The rebel group attacked Friday a mining firm and a bakeshop in Compostela Valley.
Last week, towers of Globe Telecommunications and of the National Transmission Corporation (Napocor) were bombed by the rebel group.
Ednar Dayanghirang, Mindanao Business Council executive director, said the attacks perpetrated by the NPA are a big blow to the business climate of the region and of Mindanao.
"If it continues, no new investments will come in, and the present businesses will not expand, others might move out," Dayanghirang told reporters in an interview Thursday.
Dayanghirang added that in the end, the people of Mindanao will bear the brunt of the NPA attacks.
He said there is a need to look into the root cause of the agenda of the groups, which have been fighting the government. "We fully support all types of peace efforts," Dayanghirang added.
