Council approves P157M budget on 2nd reading

THE P157-million proposed supplement budget number (SB) 1 for 2008 was passed on second reading on Tuesday afternoon.

A total of P58,059,384.16 of SB1 will go to the personnel benefits and wage adjustments of Davao City employees.

Each regular employee and co-terminus plantilla personnel of the city will get P5,000 per year for their years as their signing bonus as embodied in the Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA).

According to the report of the City Council finance committee chaired by Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, the employees were supposed to get a sum of P15,000 each as signing bonus but due to financial constraints, it was arranged that the employees will get P5,000 each for three years.

The second biggest appropriation of SB1, which totals P157,255,992.58, is for the Development Fund (Non-Infra and Infra Projects) at P47,639,036.42.

The City Mayor's Office, whose priority is still the Peace and Order Program, requested an allocation amounting to P36,200,000 while the City Council asked for P1,860,000.

The smallest budget proposed is for the City Legal office at P439,000.

Forty-four percent or P69,481,545 of the total budget will be sourced from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA); 19 percent from un-appropriated surplus of 2007; another 19 percent from reverted allocations; and 18 percent from the un-appropriated balance in the 2008 annual budget. (GLP)
