SOME 940 children were given free haircut and school supplies Saturday afternoon during the general assembly of the "Rody Sagop Bata Para sa Kaugmaon" project.
The children, who are supported by the city, gathered at the Almendras Gym for a day of fun and games.
"Tapok nato sila para naa pud bonding ginagmay ug makakaon nga manag-uban (We gathered them so that the children can have some bonding time)," said Councilor Edgar Ibuyan, who acted as facilitator.
The "Sagop Bata" project is a scholarship program for the different barangays in Davao City run by Ibuyan.
City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte tasked the councilor to handle the said project.
There were just 52 beneficiaries of the project when it started about 3 years ago.
Ibuyan added that the free haircut was sponsored by their partners in Iwag Dabaw, an organization of gay males whose members mostly worked in Davao's high-end salons.
"Among pud silang pahimangnuan kung unsa ilang mga responsibilidad sa kaugalingon ug sa ilang mga pamilya arun ma-guide sila sa ilang pagdako (We also try to tech them how to be responsible to guide them as they grow)," Ibuyan said as most of the beneficiaries are children who grew up on the streets.
