Minda-wide investment confab set next month

AFTER the successful staging of the Bimp-Eaga Investment Conference in Davao City last year, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Southern Mindanao announced that a Mindanao-wide investment conference would be held in Cagayan de Oro City next month.

In an interview, DTI-Davao provincial director Teolulo Pasawa said the conference will be staged side by side with a trade fair in the same city. He, however, failed to announce when will be the exact date of the event.

"The intention of this conference is to inform investors of some potential investment areas in Mindanao," Pasawa said.

When asked whether Mindanao has already get through with its image problem, Pasawa claimed such negative image will always be there, but he was quick to add that terrorism risk is not only confined to Mindanao.

"Terrorism is not only confined to Mindanao as there are a lot of places not only in the country but also in the world which we thought are safe in the past, but also have terrorism risk," Pasawa explained.

He added that investors should realize that Mindanao, despite of its image perception, is one of "great areas" in the country for investments.

"Mindanao has dynamic indicators for investment," he said, adding that the island is rich in natural resources and is also outside the typhoon zone. (JGRS)
