Water district facilities tightly watched

SECURITY measures in various facilities of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) have been tightened following reports that the water utility has been included in the New People's Army (NPA) "hot list."

Other companies that were reportedly included in the hot list are Lapanday Foods Corporation, Dole-Stanfilco Philippines, and Franklin Baker.

In an interview, Imelda Magsuci, DCWD finance manager, said the water utility decided to augment its security after it heard of the reports.

But Magusic said it was only their facilities that are being tightly watched and not their officials.

Some of the facilities where security has been tightened include reservoirs, pumping wells, and pipelines.

Reports showed that the rebel group is targeting DCWD due to the long-standing labor dispute within the company.

In a text message Friday, Ed Bangayan, chair of the board of directors of DCWD, said "all the actions of the water utility are in accordance with the law and Civil Service Commission regulations."

"We would focus our efforts on the protection of our water resources and provision of water to the city," Bangayan said. (CPM)
