Cagas still doesn't have RPOC appointment papers

POLICE Regional Office Director Andres Caro II said Malacañang has yet to send the official appointment papers of Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Ra. Cagas as the new Regional Peace and Order Council chair for Southern Mindanao.

Despite the public pronouncements of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, announcing the new post of Cagas, the governor has been reported to have not taken over yet the post.

The RPOC chairmanship has been left vacant for almost seven months, with Caro as acting chair for the meantime.

The post was previously held by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for the past 12 years prior to his quitting of the post last January 2008.

Duterte has repeatedly said his resignation was a matter of principle. He stepped down as RPOC-Southern Mindanao chair after being implicated in the killing of broadcaster Fernando "Batman" Lintuan last December 24, 2007.

Duterte meanwhile lauded the appointment of Cagas as RPOC chair. "He is a good choice," the city mayor said in a previous interview.

The RPOC is tasked to implement peace and order programs and projects in the local communities. (CPM)
