Davao bet tops chessfest

DAVAO City's Dharim Bacus emerged as champion in the 1st Saturday Magnolia Non-Master Active Chess Tournament in Parañaque City over the weekend.

Bacus blasted Clement Valledor in the final seventh round.

Bacus, a former Shell National Youth Active Chess champion, scored a perfect seven points. He pocket the grandprize of P3,000.

The chessfest attracted 84 players.

The College of St. Benilde (CSB) bet Narquinden Reyes, who represented the country 2008 Danang, Vietnam Asean Age Group Chess Championships recently, and Manila chesser Emil Chua tied for second and third, respectively. They both got 6.5 points each.

Other winners were Cecil Padua (top senior), Romeo Soriano (top unrated), Daryl Unix Samantila (top kiddie) and Marie Antoinette San Diego (top lady).

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) sanctioned the event. (MLSA)
