Monday, July 14, 2008 Water district: Yellowish tinge in water isn't dirt
THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) said the yellowish tinge of water in some areas in the second district does not mean the water being served there is of poor quality.
Residents of the second district, particularly those residing in the area of Cabantian, have been complaining about the water that has been coming out of their faucets. They said most of them use water from DCWD only for washing and that they have to spend more for mineral water supply for drinking.
In an interview, Imelda Magsuci, finance manager of DCWD, said the quality of the water in the area is within standards.
"The yellow tinge is brought about by the presence of humic acid in the area," Magsuci said.
Humic acid is a natural organic element present in some types of soil.
Magsuci said the government-controlled water utility is working on the elimination of the color present in the water. Still, based on the findings of DCWD, the color of the water is within 2 to 3 units, while the standard is 5 units.
"It is within the standards," Magsuci added.
The DCWD is reportedly working on the installation of a filtration facility to eliminate the presence of the color or the rehabilitation of well number 2, which now serves the area.
