Monday, July 14, 2008 RP's Donaire fails anew in title bid
GLENN Donaire of the Philippines lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Ulises Solis in their International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight championship showdown Sunday in Mexico.
Philboxing.com reported that Donaire, who hails from General Santos City but is now based in California, put up a gallant stand against the champion, but just didn't get the nod of the judges.
Solis won in all scorecards in the tight contest. The scores were 120-108, 120-108 and 120-107 all in favor of the Mexican, who improved to 27-1-1 with 21 KOs.
Donaire, brother of current IBF flyweight titlist Nonito Donaire Jr, dropped to 19-4-1 with 12 KOs.
This was the second time Glenn Donaire fought for a world crown and lost. His first attempt to win the world crown was when he challenged then IBF flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan a couple of years back.
Darchinyan stopped Glenn Donaire in that fight, but later on lost the crown to Nonito Donaire Jr. via a stunning fifth round knockout.
