Tuesday, July 15, 2008 City's competitiveness tops Tuesday's session
THE reasons why Davao City has consistently made it to No. 1 in the AIM Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project will be the main talk in Tuesday's regular session.
Vice-Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said Christine Omar, executive director of the Ateneo de Davao University Center for Business Research and Extension, will be presenting the details of the survey highlighting the areas where Davao has improved over the years as well as those that needs more work.
Davao topped only two of six key competitive drivers.
It has the highest scored in Cost of Doing Business and Infrastructure drivers while it placed No. 4 in Dynamism of Local Economy where Makati emerged No. 1.
Davao also placed 7th in Quality of Life, which was topped by Mandaluyong and clinched the 3rd spot in Responsiveness of Local Government that was topped by San Juan City.
In Human Resources and Training, Davao placed 7th while Marikina City got the top spot.
Duterte said this is a venue for the city to share to the public what the people of Davao have managed to accomplish collectively and inspire the city people to do even more.
The AdDU-Center for Business Research and Extension is the academic partner of Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in the last three rounds and conducted the data gathering and initial assessment.
Since the first competitive ranking project in 1999 where Davao ranked 5th, the city has only one other year where it did not emerge No. 1. This was during the 3rd round of the project in 2003 when the city ranked 3rd.
The survey, so far, have only had 5 rounds: 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2007. (GLP)
