Tuesday, July 15, 2008 Mayor: CEO revamp to address floods
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is revamping the City Engineers Office (CEO) to address the worsening flood problem in the city.
Duterte, in his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, announced the appointment of retired Army Colonel Yusop Jimlani as general coordinator for the drainage rehabilitation project.
He said he will also appoint a new city engineer anytime soon. He did not say though who would replace officer-in-charge Engineer Joaquin Cui.
The mayor said he will be realigning the P90 million from the supposed new drainage system of the city for the rehabilitation of the old and existing drainage system so as to alleviate flooding in the city.
Duterte reiterated that he is taking the cudgel for the flooding as he appealed for support and cooperation of the Dabawenyos by refraining from throwing their garbage at the canals. (BOT)
