Wednesday, July 16, 2008 Help market Davao to investors: councilor
THE chair of the City Council committee on trade, commerce, and industry urges the media to help market Davao City by correcting investors' impression that Davao is comparable to other cities in the country.
"About the image perception problem, the problem of Davao is not so much about Davao, but the peace and order situation of the whole Mindanao," Councilor Peter Laviña said on Friday.
Laviña said mediamen play a big role in correcting the image perception of Davao by properly indicating in reports that Davao City is several hours away from areas in Mindanao where violence often occur.
"Some media in Luzon or in Visayas use the term Mindanao generally, they do not particularly indicate or cite the place of the conflict-affected area," he said.
DTI-Davao Provincial Director Teolulo Pasawa said earlier that security risk is not only confined to Mindanao, but also to other areas in the country and in the world.
"Investors should take note that security risk is not only confined to Mindanao. Even other areas in the world which we thought are safe in the past, also have security risks," he shared. (JGRS)
