Friday, July 18, 2008 Dog behavior training at MTS By Jojie Alcantara
THE Matina Town Square Park is once again abuzz with frenzy and excitement as dog lovers and owners took their dogs around for a walk and some socializing among various breeds.
Organized by the Pug Club of Davao, the Dog Behavior Training was an effort to train dog owners on good discipline skills for their pets.
Club president Arfe Gavilanes introduced the speaker, Leonardo "Narding" Delmar, who is known in the community as a skilled and effective trainor. Dr. Ken Lao, my dogs' veterinarian, was also the second speaker to welcome queries on dog behavior and other matters.
Sponsors were on hand to give away tokens and dog food for registered participants: these are Davao Royal Kennel, Pet Essentials, Kou Ohana Kennel-Davao City, The Puggery Kennel, Imperial Romanov Kennel, Christine Afdal, and Dr. Ken Lao.
There were 28 registered participants and others who weren't listed but showed up.
As part of the fun activities, a contest ended up with Louie Ramos' Golden Retriever Nugget as best in activity; a Baby Chow won the cutest puppy; and Tom Inigo's diminutive Pomeranian as the smallest dog. Each took home a bag of goodies and dog food. Other prizes were also given away in a question-and-answer game.
The socializing was made possible by the online forum www.onedogworld.com, which enables dog lovers to communicate and share experiences and views, as well as participate in activities such as this helpful workshop.
Rhonson and I didn't bring our five dogs, because we wouldn't be able to concentrate on shooting these adorable pets.
