Friday, July 18, 2008 Bangoyan defends title Saturday
BALWEG Bangoyan, one of the promising boxers in Mindanao today, climbs the ring anew this Saturday to defend his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) junior featherweight crown at the New Cebu Coliseum.
The 20-year-old Bangoyan will be making his third title defense, this time against Phil Angcamor of Cagayan de Oro City.
The Bangoyan-Angcamor showdown is in the undercard of the "Collision at the Coliseum" fight card featuring top Filipino prospects Rene Ganoy, Ciso Morales, and Bert Batawang.
Bangoyan boasts of an impressive record of 11 wins with seven knockout victories. The boxer from Davao del Sur's main weapons is his speed and power.
Bangoyan won the vacant PBF title against Elpher Paganpan, whom he knocked out in the ninth round in November last year at the Mall of Asia in Manila.
In his last fight, Bangoyan dominated veteran boxer Robert Dalisay on the way to scoring a 10-round points victory in Jose Abad Santos.
In the main event of the "Collision at the Coliseum," Morales will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super bantamweight title against Narongoi Or Muangklang of Thailand in a 12-round clash.
Ganoy will face another Thai fighter, Sapapeth Sor Sakaorat, while Batawang meets Benjie Sorolla.
WBO vice president and Asia-Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, meanwhile, has arrived in the country to supervise the fight card.
