3 die as bike hits truck

KIDAPAWAN CITY--- Three persons died when their motorcycle collided with a truck along the highway in Makilala, North Cotabato on Thursday night.

Inspector Ramel Hojilla, chief of Makilala PNP, identified the fatalities as Lito Sipitan, driver of an SYM motorcycle, and passengers Richard Perez and Noel Pasquin, all residents of Barangay Palma Perez in M'lang, North Cotabato.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hojilla said Sipitan died on the spot while the other two died minutes after they were rushed to the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital here.

Attending physicians said severe head injuries caused their deaths.

Initial investigation showed that the motorcycle driven by Sipitan had overtaken a speeding vehicle along a blind curve in Malaang road in Makilala when it crashed head on with an approaching Isuzu truck driven by Deo Reyes.

Reyes has already surrendered to the police but traffic investigators ruled that he was not the one at fault.

"The driver was driving in the right lane when the motorcycle collided with his truck, which was loaded with scrap iron," said Hojilla.

The area, according to motorists, is considered accident-prone.

"But road signs are all over the place, which give the drivers warning that they must drive safely when taking a left or a right (turn)," said Hojilla. (MCM)
