Drivers given till Monday to get new fare tariff
By Seth delos Reyes

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned operators and drivers of public utility vehicles not to ply their routes without the adjusted fare tariff posted at their units starting Monday.

LTFRB operations division chief Edgar Violan said their office has been issuing the adjusted fare tariff since July 14 and they are out to implement the law.

"We will have a joint operation with the Land Transportation Office and the policemen they have deputized to implement laws related to traffic and transport operations and will implement the order in full force," he said.

"Those who will be arrested for non-compliance will be fined P500," he said. "A photocopy of the certification hologram is not allowed, we require the original copy to be posted inside the jeepneys in a place visible to passengers."

Application for the adjusted fare tariff will cost P520 per unit but operators can avail of the certificate by paying only P50 and the other fees later.

Violan also said collecting the old fare (P7.50) if the operator has not secured a certificate is not allowed since it would mean undercharging and would entail bigger penalty in the amount of P3,000.

As of Friday, about 80 percent of operators in Davao City have already secured the Adjusted Fare Rate Certificate.

"For those who have not secured the new tariff, better let their units stay in garage while processing the requirement than getting fined," Violan said.
