Davao Norte booters shock DFA, 1-0

THE Davao del Norte eleven shocked host Davao Football Association (DFA)-Seagull Football Club, 1-0, in the rain-soaked opener of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Men's Championship Southern Mindanao Finals at the Tionko field Friday.

Davao Football Association (DFA) secretary Erwin Protacio, in a statement, said Mark Fernandez scored the lone goal through a header in the 55th minute.

He said DFA-Seagull team of coach Albert "Abing" Lim "had three chances to score via penalty kicks but they all missed."

He added: "Jerome Balaga's kick was saved by Davao del Norte keeper Al-adel Salida while Clifford Dacera had another opportunity but his shot went over the goal."

"Although Dacera missed, a Davao del Norte player encroached inside the penalty area before the penalty kick was taken. Referee Rino Neri decided that the penalty kick be done again. Salida, however, frustrated Davao's efforts when he stopped Jayric Iligan's penalty kick," he said.

Davao del Norte was still playing Compostela Valley as of Saturday. (MLSA)
