"Immediately, troops occupied vantage positions and returned fire," Paniza said.

The firefight ensued for almost 30 minutes.

Two enlisted personnel were wounded as a result and they are identified as Private First Class Felicito Malaga and Private First Class Tahir Parcol.

They were brought to the Malita District Hospital and later transferred to the hospital at Camp Panacan, Davao City, according to Panisa.

He added that the two are now out of danger.

Panisa said three separate armed battles occurred in the area. The second skirmish happened around 1:30 p.m. and later on the same day at 5 p.m., battalion commander said. (Dondon Dinoy/BOT)
