Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Floods snarl traffic anew By Carlo P. Mallo
RUSH hour traffic came to a slow and snarled pace Monday as several portions of Davao City's main thoroughfares were once again inundated by morning rains brought about by two weather disturbances affecting the region.
The long downpour Monday morning caused the immediate flooding of the portions of McArthur Highway and the inner streets of the downtown area of the city.
The floodwaters subsided shortly before noon, just around an hour after the rains have stopped.
Based on the weather report of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), two weather disturbances are currently affecting Southern Mindanao -- an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and a low-pressure area.
The weather bureau added that the two weather disturbances are expected to bring in heavy rains and overcast skies for the rest of the week.
