"Kabalo ko nga magdula mo para sa premyo pero ayaw kalimti nga mag-enjoy pud mo. Ang importante kay malingaw mo kay ang recreation parte na sa tibuok pagkatao nato (I know you'll be playing for the prizes but don't forget to also enjoy yourselves because recreation is very important. It is part of the whole being of a person)," Duterte said.
Davao City Councilor Paolo Z. Duterte, who is Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president, for his part, said: "Maski magkalain-lain inyong mga uniporme ug inyong mga barangay, dili nato kalimtan nga parehas ra tang mga Dabawenyo. Magkahiusa ta. Ang mga kabataan gatan-aw ninyo. Unta kamo ang mamahimo nilang idol sa matag barangay (You may be wearing different uniforms, but don't forget we are all Dabawenyos. Let's all be united. The youth look up to you. I hope you will live up to being their barangay idols)."
Barangay 1-A, meanwhile, drew first blood by routing Barangay 16-B, 86-61, in the Poblacion A inter-barangay competition while Barangay 38-D beat Barangay 23-C, 100-96, in the second game.
