"I've talked to the mayor recently and he said he was just waiting for my proposal, thus we have made ocular visits to the crematorium facilities of Pasay, Marikina and Cabuyao, Laguna for benchmarking," Abellera said Tuesday.
In his privilege speech earlier, Abellera said a crematorium will address problems of space, maintenance, and ecological concern that traditional cemeteries pose.
"Among the other functional uses include the destruction of pirated disks confiscated from raids; containing contaminants and other polluting substances; destruction of shabu and other undesirable and illegal drugs; cremating unclaimed bodies including cadavers used in medical schools and reducing as well as livestock affected by dangerous diseases," Abellera said.
He added that modern crematoriums are far more efficient than first-generation equipment because these are anti-pollution compliant with a longer life span and leaves no undesirable residue of any kind.
This cost a lot though, said Abellera.
However, he added this might be funded through a partnership between the City and National Government agencies like the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) as not to burden the city largely. (GLP)
