100 jins in Del Rosario Taekwondo championship

THE 1st RDR Taekwondo Championship kicks off on Sunday in Tagum City.

Tagum Taekwondo Center's Rey Nagar said they expect some 100 jins all over the province to participate in the competition that features the children and junior categories.

"There will also be a novice and advance divisions in every category to give fair chance to the beginners to excel," Nagar said during Thursday's regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.

Nagar said the competition is open only to players residing in the province of Davao del Norte.

"With the support of Governor Rodolfo del Rosario, we expect this tournament to go Mindanaowide in the future. We are very happy indeed that taekwondo was picked as among the focus sports of the province," Nagar said.

He said winners in the free registration event will not only receive medals but also get original Kix shirts.

Nagar, meanwhile, said that the AGR Coaches Clinics opened Thursday at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan where national coaches in taekwondo, athletics, swimming, boxing and badminton came to orient provincial coaches including those at the Department of Education new techniques in those five priority sports.

"A series of lectures were held today (Thursday) and the workshop proper will be tomorrow (Friday)," he said.

The clinics, organized as part of the Agenda for Games & Recreation of provincial sports coordinator Anthony del Rosario, were also held in coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission. (MLSA)
