Friday, July 25, 2008 Garcia: A Good Learning Experience By Imee Garcia
LAST Sunday, Padraig Harrington won the British Open for the second time. Most of the golfers had a very difficult time coping with the wind and rain that they all scored lousy. Despite the terrible weather, Harrington managed to play very well. He was my favorite to win. I should have placed a bet on him. I could have won a very sumptuous meal at a restaurant of my choice. Oh well. He won by four strokes. In second place was Ian Poulter of England.
In 2007, did you know that Padraig was the first Irishman to win the British Open in 60 years? And now he has won it again--despite an injured right wrist. Outstanding!
What a comeback for Greg Norman. I know why he played very well. He was very inspired. He recently married Chris Evert (former tennis champion), that's why. But, according to the HeraldSun.com.au, Chris Evert's former husband, Andy Mill, says his former best friend, Australian golf great Greg Norman, stole his wife. (chismis. LOL)
Tiger Woods did not join the British Open. After the US Open, he had reconstructive surgery on his left knee, and because of that, he will not play the rest of the year.
On the LPGA side, Ji Young Oh of Korea won the State Farm Classic beating Yani Tseng of Taiwan in a playoff. Asians dominated an LPGA tournament again. Where are the favorites? Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb, Morgan Pressel, Imee Garcia, and so many others were no shows. What??? Why is Imee Garcia's name included on the list? Haha! It should not have been there.
Her name does not belong there, but instead, it should be in Vogue or Cosmopolitan magazine. LOL--yes, on ad which says "trying to lose weight."
Speaking of the State Farm Classic, 18-year old Michelle Wie was disqualified because she forgot to sign her scorecard. She was in second place after the second round. She finally had a chance to win an LPGA tournament, but, because of a silly mistake, she lost her opportunity. When she was interviewed, this was what she said, "but it was an honest mistake. I don't know why or how it happened. But, you know, I just forgot to sign it. Hopefully it won't happen again. It was a good learning experience." (Such a costly learning experience!)
