Themed "Valuing Traditions in Shaping the Future," the 2nd National Conference on Indigenous People's Higher Education will be hosted by the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) as part of its advocacy to help IPs pursue self-determination through higher education.
Usep, in a statement, said the conference aims to "provide an avenue for IP groups and concerned institutions to forge partnerships in helping IPs help themselves by ensuring quality and culturally-appropriate education."
Among the conference highlights are research-based paper presentations, performances that showcases traditions of the IPs, and a visit to the Pamulaan Center for Indigenous People's Education in Mintal.
The Pamulaan Center is said to be the first institution that offers tertiary education exclusively for IPs.
Paper presentations, on the other hand, are categorized into songs, dances, and literature, sustainable resources management, community building and education.
The conference is also endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education and the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges. (GLP)
