Monday, July 28, 2008 Davao chamber pushes for Sasa port upgrade By Joy Romares-Sevilla
TO MAKE Davao port in Sasa more competitive, the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) urged the City Government to push for the development of the port facilities.
This was one of the resolutions passed by the chamber to the Office of the City Mayor, saying: "Davao port lacks the crane to handle the volume, hence vessel turn around is reduced."
DCCCII proposed that the current structure of the port have to be augmented with necessary facility to accommodate the perceived increase in volume.
It added that "the structure of the port needs to be expanded to support the increasing volume of cargo, and that the pier should reinforce and redesign to handle the efficient onloading and offloading of cargo."
DCCCII also urges the City Government to enact a resolution urging the National Government to allocate budget for the development of the container handlings and vessels in Sasa Port.
Copies of the resolution have already been furnished to the Office of the City Mayor, City Council of Davao, Office of the City Planning and Development Office, regional offices of the Philippine Ports Authority, and the Department of Transportation and Communication.
