Kadayawan's 'Moda' open to Mindanao-based artists

MODA Mindanaw (The Mindanao Fashion Season) is the Kadayawan Festival's design competition and extravaganza of indigenous-inspired silhouettes, Mindanawon fabrics and floral accessories created by up and coming Mindanao fashion and floral artists.

Moda Mindanaw competition is open to all Mindanao-based fashion and floral artists.

It has two categories, namely Fashion (Avant Garde, Wearable for Men and Wearable for Women) and Floral Design (Hand-held and Wearable Accessory).

Interested participants are required to submit their sketches of the said categories complete with description and materials to use.

From the sketches and interview of each aspirant, ten (10) finalists for each category will be selected.

The finalists will be given subsidies to support their creations, P6,000 for fashion designers and P2,000 for floral artists.

Indigenous or traditional materials are suggested for use for the reinterpretation of indigenous shapes, colors, silhouettes, costumes, textures and traditions.

For the floral design competitions, the finalists will be required for the on-site floral arrangement competition.

Models will be assigned per finalist.

Criteria for Moda Mindanao are as follows:

Fashion Design Competition -- Design and Concept 30 percent, Craftsmanship 30 percent, hang and Fit 20 percent, Visual Impact 10 percent, and Materials Used 10 percent.

For the Floral Design Competition -- Design and Concept 30 percent, Craftsmanship 30 percent, Visual Impact 20 percent, Resource Management 10 percent and Materials Used 10 percent.

1st prize will be as high as P20,000.
