Friday, August 01, 2008 Councilor tags IFC study 'form of disinformation'
A MEMBER of the Davao City council has tagged the report of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as a form of disinformation, which resulted to the creation of misimpressions on the business climate in the city.
"It is entirely not true, the entry of new businesses in the city proves their report to be wrong," Councilor Pete Laviña said.
Davao City was ranked 19 out of 21 cities in a study made by IFC regarding the ease of doing business in the city.
"If it were truly difficult to start business here, then why are the investors coming?" Laviña asked.
The result of the study has been criticized by various groups including the Business Bureau and the City Council.
Laviña said that regardless of the presence of the study conducted by the IFC, the City Council has been regularly reviewing the city's policies and procedures in the procurement of permits and other features that will improve the business climate here.
"Any move for the improvement of the city's business climate is most welcome," he said. "We have passed around three to four ordinances that will improve the business environment of the city." (CPM)
