Friday, August 01, 2008 Ledesma: Kuryente By Jun Ledesma Sunbursts
IT LOOKS like President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was "nakuryente" in her latest announcement that the telecom players have agreed to reduce the cost of text from P1.00 down to P0.50.
Either that or whoever she talked to in the industry have taken her for a ride and had her quickly jettisoned to demean and make her a laughing stock.
That crap about "promo rate" makes it the more apparent that the offer to reduce the rate was in fact a scheme to shame the president.
For who would buy the line that telecom players will go on a "promo" for a rate reduction of their text service!
When it's a seller's market and you're raking in billions of moolah no sweat, you don't go on advertising that you will cut down your price by 50 percent.
The normal course is to increase it. This promo thing therefore is nothing but a lot of nonsense.
Well, my educated guess is that one of the wise guys in her cabinet must have done PGMA in.
The other possibility is that, somebody from the National Telecommunication Commission connived with a telecom firm to drag her to a trap in exchange for an assurance for an extension of term.
This happened before with the now infamous Hyatt 10 characters who thought GMA will be uprooted by another people power.
But one thing is certain. The wrecking machinery is already on high gear. Even the Court of Appeals is not immune from covert machinations of what looks like a well-oiled machinery.
Good thing that the lid on the plot was pried opened.
We hope to see more about these devious manipulations by powerful a Makati corporate triad out to challenge government to tighten its hold on various industries and politicians.
There is a mad scramble to wrest control from Malacanang with some quarters who cannot wait for 2010.
Some senators have been salivating to become president and because nearly every body in that small house thinks he is best qualified, the scheming against each other has not stopped.
As to the text fiasco, PGMA deserves the flak as she strayed into that small issue rather than the bigger achievements she had accomplished.
