Garcia: Lanang Golf Club closes
By Imee Garcia

THE Farewell Tournament at Lanang Golf & Country Club was held last Saturday, July 26.

As expected, many joined the tournament to pay their last respect to the golf course most have considered their second home.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

There was a bar chow after the game, and there was a band that played at the awards ceremony.

Members and guests were still allowed to play up to Thursday, July 31, to say their last goodbyes.

My friends and I made the most out of it--playing last Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday. And now, it is finally closed.

I am very teary-eyed as I am writing this. I am struggling to find words that can best describe how I am feeling--how everyone is feeling. I am still in shock, not realizing that it is really closed for good.

I have nothing much to say except goodbye.

To the employees of Lanang Golf Club--the bag room staff, the office staff, the people who maintain the fairways, the security staff who goes around the fairways, the waiters and the kitchen staff; to the caddies and the umbrella girls, to the little boys whom you sometimes see by the fences selling golf balls...goodbye. Good luck to all of you. May you find work elsewhere the soonest.

To my fellow Lanang Golf-mates, the regular Tuesday and Thursday afternoon players, hope to see you on the other courses.

There is talk that a driving range will be put up in the area of Lanang Golf Club. That is very good news. Looking forward to visiting the course once again, but this time, as a driving range.
