Monday, August 04, 2008 Mayor: Diarrhea outbreak in Maragusan is over
THE diarrhea outbreak in Maragusan, Compostela Valley is now over, said Mayor Cesar Colina as the remaining 25 of the 773 affected residents are about to be released from the hospital on Monday.
Last Saturday, the local government unit gathered all of the victims and distributed to them medicine for diarrhea.
Colina said they have also started the clean-up drive on the possible sources of diarrhea contamination. He said the health officials decided to increase the chlorine level of all water sources from two to five.
The outbreak started on July 19 and ended July 31.
Colina declared a state of calamity in his town to address the problem.
A total of 773 residents were affected by diarrhea, where 68 percent came from Barangay Poblacion, Bagong Silang 7 percent, New Katipunan 4 percent, Mauswagon 10 percent, and Mapawa 2 percent.
