A TOTAL of 350 participants have confirmed to join the three-day 7th Mindanao TVET Human Resource Skills Development (HRSD) conference, starting Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel. The event will be concluded on August 8.
Joji Ilagan-Bian, chair of the Mindanao TVET and president of the Joji Ilagan Career Centre Foundation Inc., said during a press orientation at the Krua Thai on Tuesday that this is the largest TVET conference, surpassing the number of participants last year with 250 from all over Mindanao.
"School administrators from as far as the Armm (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) have confirmed to attend. This is a venue to talk on how we can improve our training delivery and the competence of our human resources," Bian told reporters.
With this year's theme: "Mindanao TVET: Meeting the Challenges of Change," Bian said the conference aims to address the gaps in HR development.
Bian said the first day of the conference is loaded with important and comprehensive presentations on global perspective of in-demand skills, emerging technical and middle level skills demand in Malaysia, overview on opportunities for collaboration between Japan and the Philippines, the Canada HR skills, and meeting the challenges of change of HR trends, and others.
She said the second day of the conference would be intended to sites visit showcasing innovative solutions.
Participants will visit the Marco Polo Davao, Waterfront Insular Hotel, JIB elding Academy, Ford Davao, the GS Manres Construction, and the Honda Cars Davao Inc.
"We have a very high percentage of attendees. Davao is always a market leader in Mindanao in terms of tourism, trade, and because of this, we also have a role to play. We have to provide access in which participants would know where are we leading," Bian said.
Bian said on the second day of the conference, the declaration of center of excellence for the Korea Philippines Training Center (KorPhil) in Tibungco, Davao City will be highlighted. This will be conducted prior to sites visit, which is set at 10 a.m.
The conclusion of the conference on Friday will mark the opening of the 3rd Mindanao Travel and Tour Expo (MTTE) 2008 at the SM City Davao.
