THE big names in local races stamped their class anew as Juniel Languido of Bukidnon and Jho-Ann Banayag of Compostela Valley on Sunday ruled the Davao City eliminations of the 32nd National Milo Marathon.
The 25-year-old Languido, holder of many marathon crowns, outsprinted Angelito Sibayan in the 21K footrace to bag the men's title.
Banayag, the 25-year-old Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bronze medallist in 2007, dominated the female division as she crossed the finish line way, way ahead of her closest pursuer. She clocked one hour and 23 minutes.
Banayag is the National Milo Marathon record-holder and she will be gunning for her third title in the annual race by topping her division in the Davao race, which recorded the biggest number of participants at over 12,000 entries.
Vivian Avergonza finished second behind Banayag while April Rose Diaz placed third. Micheren Panerio wound up fourth.
Languido clocked 1:11:10 ruling in the men's division. Sibayan finished just 17 seconds off Languido. Joselito Dugos finished third with a time of 1:15:35.
In the 5K race, 35-year-old Edwin Alejaga was the best male finisher with 15:49 while Ruffa Serangon topped the female division with her time of 22:19.
