Thursday, August 14, 2008 Ibiza and world's wildest parties By Jinggoy Salvador
AND night has fallen...
I have taken you around the Ibiza at daylight. A walk though history in the old city, the beaches and a dip in the cool azure waters of the Balearic sea, the surprises in the hippie market and catching the Ibizan unset in the ultimate chill-out place, Cafe del Mar. It's now time to hit the clubs and take more than a look but experience the world's most spectacular parties.
The parties for the season are rolling and the club wars are on. You would not believe how these danceterias run their entertainment venues- this is business, mean business. And it is a cut-throat world, after all at club entrances of 50 euros, kaching! This is BIG money!
Themed nights of varied selections, 7/7 per club, have pre-party promotions and are launched with opening parties-immensely huge events.
It's a tester of what to expect, sell discounted tickets, and inform clubbers of transport arrangements. Think Broadway -- the world's top-ranking Djs from all over the globe flying in, cast of dancers -- good ones and beauty is a premium to snag a job, a helluva costume wardrobe, acrobats or whatever element is needed to make the entire production complete.
Manumission at Amnesia-Friday, Tiesto at Privelege -Monday, I'm famous at Pacha, Thursday, are some to get you ziping around town. And to make this theme party the most coveted on that night of the week, the club has to have the campaign.
That, my friend, extends to more than the usual. Invites are hard to get by, not unless you are a bigwig and when you are guest-listed, then you are important. What's the big come on? The production goes on the road.
Every night on the very busy months of June to September, clubs send out their "theme night production" to the busy bars and restaurants of San Antonio and Ibiza towns. It's to entice the crowd to choose their club on this night.
So expect Manumission's black leather-clad denizens of muscled men, centerfold women and transvestites in minute articles of clothing, whips, men driven chaise and the works, prancing about town to ensnare your party desires.
A couple of scribes will tag along and singling out lucky and deserving individuals and have their names on the eminent guest list. That my dear, guarantees you to a night of incredible revelry.
Or should you choose to plan ahead and choose the parties you want to be part of, buy your tickets ahead, you can get it at half the price at the door. Wise, indeed, but who plans their good times in Ibiza? Getting lost in the dizzying nightlife is part of the adventure.
If it's music you want, it's what you'll get- pure House, Electronica, Hip Hop, RnB, Trance, UKG, Breaks & Beats, Ambient, Happy Hard-Core and more recently Rock & Indie, one of the clubs in Ibiza has something to offer you.
Well-known DJs perform at the various clubs on weekly schedules in between touring to other international destinations.
Many of these DJs use Ibiza as an outlet for presenting new songs within the house and trance genres of electronic dance music.
In San Antonio, you have the major clubs of Eden and Es Paradis. Eden, the busiest nightclub in Sant Antoni, attracts the BBC's top Radio One DJ's.
While the spectacularly pyramid shaped Es Paradis is famous for its water parties, they can to flood the central section of the dance floor.
Midway San Antonio and Ibiza Town are Privilege and Amnesia. Manumission packs the clubbers in every Friday night with a spectacular show and the best dance music. Cream on a Thursday night is as grand and the party I had such a wild time in, the Ice Cannons. It's a hot, sweaty and packed night with the roar of the Ice Cannons momentarily blocking out the rhythm, not by the booming beat but you the greatest cooling experience. An onslaught of pure pleasure.
Privilege is officially recognized by The Guinness Book of Records as being the largest club in the world and former home of Manumission, houses the famous DJs Tiesto on Mondays and Mauro Picotto's Meganite on Wednesdays.
Although these clubs are in the middle of the island, Ibiza's splendid DiscoBus service runs thru' the night ferrying expectant clubbers to their preferred night of ecstasy and back to their places as the sun rises.
But who sleeps in Ibiza? Playa D'en Bossa calose to the airport, has the world famous Space, one of Ibiza's most celebrated nightclubs, famous for its all-day, all-night parties, a haven for the real deal clubbers, awarded Best Club in the World and Best Global Club. Its opening is traditionally marks the start of the clubbing season in June.
In Space, events begin in the morning and usually don't end until well into the morning the next day. The hugely successful We Love Sundays at Space, opens at 8 a.m. on Sunday and keeps going until 6 a.m. Monday morning. Fantastic!
In Ibiza Town, there is the original nightclub of Ibiza, Pacha and its signature twin cherries, 4 rooms of magic, filled with some of the world's most beautiful people. However, the rest of them are at the most glamorous venue on the island, in the most perfect position, El Divino.
"Clubbing in Ibiza, isn't like going out once a week to your favorite night spot, it is a complete life experience crammed into the most intense week or two weeks of your life. Where else in the world can you see the cream of the world's DJ's every night."
This I can say, I have never been so tired in my life with partying every night. Must stay awake, must stay awake, must stay awake...
