A PLATOON from the Philippine Army has encountered 20 New People's Army (NPA) combatants at Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil in the town of Talaingod, Davao del Norte Thursday afternoon.
Military reports showed that a platoon from the 103rd Division Reaction Company led by Lieutenant Danilo Mapapac encountered the rebels around 1:20 in the afternoon of August 14. The firefight lasted for 30 minutes before the rebels withdrew towards the northeast direction.
The rebel allegedly brought with them an undetermined number of wounded and killed comrades. No casualty was reported on the government side.
Government troops recovered two hand grenades and subversive documents of high intelligence value.
Eastern Mindanao Command chief Major General Armando Cunanan readily congratulated the operating troops as he ordered all other units in the area to conduct pursuit operations and strengthen their combat operations in the area. (BOT)
