Saturday, August 16, 2008 Truck falls off ravine, 15 dead
AT LEAST 15 people died while 14 others were injured when the cargo truck they were riding in fell off a ravine while on its way down to the town center of Monkayo, Compostela Valley on Friday morning.
Mt. Diwata barangay captain Franco Tito said the victims were onboard a truck loaded with empty bottles from the gold rush mountain of Diwalwal when the truck's brake failed.
The truck, owned by Goldie Marketing, fell down the cliff with its 29 passengers and driver at Landing 14 in Barangay Upper Ulip.
Rescuers raced to the area when they were informed about the accident, Tito said.
The dead were brought to the funeral parlor, while the wounded were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
