Saturday, August 16, 2008 Open netfest a qualifying event
THE 2008 Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Kadayawan Men's Open Doubles Tennis Tournament, which unwraps on August 23 and 24 at the Ecoland Phase 4 Tennis Club, will serve as the Davao City's qualifying event for the upcoming 4th Mindanao Friendship Games.
Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) regional vice-president for Mindanao Juanito Cansino Jr. said Friday that the Kadayawan tournament will also be the elimination for the 20 years old and under singles players to form the city's team to the MFG. Thus, only Davao City residents can play in the singles category.
Bimp Eaga Games gold medallist El Santo Santos, World Jr. Tennis Oceania/Pacific Qualifying campaigner Juan Paolo Cansino, age-group tennis veteran Andre Dizon, Andre Banate and Henry Añana were among the early registrants for the singles under-20.
The men's doubles open, meanwhile, already attracted eight entries. They are Davao City's Santos-Mark Alcoseba, Banate-Terrence Estrope, Orly Mejia-Erwin Velasco, Greg Jayme-Waway Jayme, Jack Sandique-Banwag Matas and Jude Velez-Ed Angelo Diez. (MLSA)
