City plans to purchase CCTV for intersections

THE City Government of Davao is contemplating on purchasing multi-million closed-circuit televisions that will be installed in the city street intersections as part of the city's counter-terrorism program.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, however, said he will let the people decide on the matter as he urged the public to attend the hearings that the Provincial Board (PB) will conduct.

The mayor said the LandBank of the Philippines is willing to lend money to the City Government for the said purpose.

He said it will be good for the city's security, but stressed that if the people do not want it, then he will abide by the people's decision.

CCTV is being used by rich cities all over the world in monitoring not just the traffic flow but also criminal activities. The CCTV has helped solved and prevented a lot of crimes and terrorist activities in many parts of the world.

Each CCTV camera is priced at an average of P18,000 to as much as P50,000 each depending on the specifications. This does not include the digital video recorder and monitors, as well as other accessories necessary for the CCTV to fully function.

Duterte did not say how much LandBank is ready to give as loan to Davao City. (BOT)
