Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Fire razes 2 buses in LCI garage
TWO buses were burned and another partially damaged in a fire at the parking lot of Land Car Incorporated (LCI) along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City on Sunday night.
Senior Fire Officer 2 Eduardo Pantinople of the SIR Fire Station said Monday that they received a report about the fire at around 7:50 p.m.
Two buses of the LCI with plate numbers LWA 566 and LWM 426 were burned down.
Another unit with plate number LVW 260 was saved by firefighters.
The LCI bus line is owned by one Lando Cachuela.
"According to Cachuela, more or less P1 million pesos ang total damage," Pantinople said.
"Out of service na ni nga mga bus kay sira na," he added explaining why only P1-million was the estimated damage considering there were two buses burned.
According to Pantinople, one Orchard Rosales, a bus conductor of another LCI bus unit (LWM 426), was entrusted to keep watch of the units and sleeps at the garage.
"Base sa akong initial investigation, mura'g katol ang hinungdan kay didto man nagatulog ning konduktor. Tapos naay part sa katol nga dili sinindihan nga akong nakita didto so it means, nagagamit og katol ang nagatulog didto (The fire could have started from a mosquito coil. I saw an unused portion, which means whoever slept there, has been using mosquito coils)," Pantinople said.
Further investigation is being conducted to rule out foul play.
Pantinople said Cachuela is conducting his own investigation, as this is negligence on the part of the employee.
The fire was totally put out around 8:35 p.m.
No one was hurt or injured in the incident.
Aside from the SIR Fire Station, firefighters from the 911 and Filipino-Chinese also responded at the fire scene. (RCO)
